Considered a perennial grass in most regions, Timothy cannot handle the heat of the Southeast to act as a true perennial. However, the low seeding rate and seed cost make it an excellent single cut annual grass. A soft textured grass, highly sought after for hay production. Timing of fall planting is critical to get a good return on investment for this forage. For most areas in the South, September and October planting is ideal. Count on one big spring harvest after fescue and orchardgrass have matured.
