Legume Mixture

Corn Supreme

Corn supreme

A cover crop mix designed to be planted before corn, sorghum, or other high nitrogen use crops to provide early season weed suppression, reduce compaction, increase water infiltration, build organic matter, and add nitrogen to the soil. Cereal rye and winter oats contribute to the weed suppression and organic matter buildup, while the Austrian winter peas and crimson clover build nitrogen all season to give to the cash crop early in the season.

Mixture Components

Cereal rye

Cereal rye establishes quickly and grows through the colder season. It degrades slowly during the summer, so it provides an excellent weed mat.

Winter Oats

Winter oats survive colder temperatures but remain vegetative longer than cereal rye. They degrade faster during the summer, returning the collected nutrients and quickly beginning organic matter buildup. They have excellent root mass for breaking up compaction.

Crimson Clover

A legume that can fix as much as 150 lbs. of nitrogen per acre. Degrades quickly, providing nitrogen to the cash crop early in the season.

Winter Pea

A vining legume that will grow up small grains to thicken the canopy. Provides up to 100 lbs. of nitrogen per acre. Nitrogen is available early in the season.

Planting Instructions

Drill at 0.25-0.5” depth. Calibrate your drill to ensure you have an accurate rate. Broadcasting without incorporation is not recommended due to seed size. Target planting at a minimum of 30 days prior to frost to allow legumes to establish.
