With its dry stalk, millet is one of the easier summer annuals to use for a multi-cut dry hay system. It tolerates a broader range of soil conditions than sorghum sudan or sudangrass and has better-tillering capacity than the sorghums, but do grow in height a little slower. Millet does not run the risk of prussic acid poisoning, is safe for horses, and is not affected by the sugarcane aphid.

Japanese Millet

Fast growth and a fibrous root system makes it an excellent cover crop. It has a finer stem than pearl millet and sorghum and makes high quality forage for grazing or hay.
